Positive action. For the ocean. From the Alps.
Our vision is to work with communities, businesses, policy makers, and everyday change makers in and around Tirol to raise awareness about the problem and to provide education and practical solutions to keep our ocean – and ourselves – alive and healthy. We like to keep it simple and have fun on the way.
The problems might be complicated, but they are caused by humans, and often we already know what the solutions are. We just need to embrace them.
We were founded in Innsbruck in 2019, by ocean-lover and communication specialist Suzanne Whitby, and we’re looking forward to growing from strength to strength, perhaps with you on board…
I can be a real pain in the backside at dinner parties. Since 2007, I’ve been telling friends and family about what we are doing to the ocean, why it matters, and what changes we can make. What I’ve realised is that many people don’t want to know: they want to stick their head in the sand and hope that their kids will solve the problem. This makes me sad, because once all the whales are gone or once the last cod dies out or the last tuna fish is consumed, that’s it. There will be no chance to go back. In 2019, I decided to start Peak to Deep as a response to the feeling that I had to do something to make a difference, something to raise awareness, engage my community, and inspire people to take action, and Peak to Deep was born.
What’s a fun fact about you?
I’m a traditional oral storyteller in my free time. Oh, and I’m very curious about smell: at the moment, I’m researching how ancient Romans experienced the smells in their city, and I can go on and on about how fascinating scent is… What, you want to invite me around for dinner to hear more? Lovely!
